1 Thessalonians 4:3-5 For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality; that each one of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor, not in the passion of lust like the Gentiles who do not know God;
What is honor? In modern society we we say that honor is integrity, it is respect, and while those things are true, we barely scratch the surface of the deep, true meaning of honor. I feel like, sitting her explaining honor would turn into an entirely different post, so for now we'll talk about honor in society in regards to sex.
More thoroughly defined, honor is self discipline, responsibility, courage, perseverance, honesty, loyalty, a duty to decipher between right and wrong, and respecting faith. Dehumanization is defined as a process by which people have depicted themselves or parts of themselves as void of dignity. The Lucifer effect by Phip Zimbardo defines dehumanization as "one of the central processes in the transformation of ordinary people into indifferent or even wanton perpetrators of evil."
Now, I know what you are probably thinking…and no, I am not saying sex is evil. I am saying that through the use of tv ads, explicit television shows, and explicit novels - a massive group of our society has not only become callused, but defenders of the popularized casual sex game. They are transgressors of turning what is supposed to be a process of love, passion and an exchanging of pieces of souls, into something devoid of compassion, almost animalistic and dirty. Sex has become a source of fun, not a loving and honorable exchange with tremendous spiritual value.
All because of the lack of honor. When I say honor, it is when you- as a man think about HOW having sex with someone who is NOT your wife, might affect the man who wants her to be his wife. It is how you as a woman would feel about another woman not considering how the way she desires and treats a man might affect him as a husband in your future. It all comes full circle. What kind of honorable things are you doing or not doing, to ensure your sons and daughters, sisters, brothers, friends, even STRANGERS - are being respected and futures considered?
As I said in the beginning, religion has placed rules on what society should do in every aspect of their lives. In return, you have said, "How dare you limit what I can do with my body…" Forgetting that it is not only your body that God is worried about, it is you soul. And every time you willingly dishonor your body, you dishonor God, you give away a piece of yourself that is supposed to be reserved for the one you love and want to spend the rest of your life with. You give away a piece of your heart. Don't tell me you don't, because in not caring about who uses your body or how you treat it, you have to put up some kind of wall over your heart in an attempt to protect it. Over time that will cost you so much more pain, and when you decide to take all of the brick and mortar down, it won't be easy, and a sledge hammer can only do so much of the work.
